It’s that time of year when we hang up our national flags and brush up on classic National Day songs like Home and Where I Belong. On August 9, the nation will congregate at the historic National Stadium to celebrate how far we’ve come together and pledge to unite on the path ahead.

This year’s parade is slightly different from the past. It will not include segments like the mobile column, Red Lions and aerial displays. Instead, you can expect an indoor drone show, aerial performances, and special effects. The presidential gun salute will also take place at Kallang Basin for the first time as well. Located right beside the National Stadium, the new Stadium Riverside Walk is one of the public spots that’s closest to the National Day fireworks. The waterfront promenade offers largely unobstructed views across the Kallang Basin, making it an excellent vantage point for the celebrations. Arrive early, though, as it’s expected to be one of the most popular viewing locations.

2. Kallang Lawn Bowl

The newly opened Kallang Lawn Bowl offers a spacious, grassy area perfect for spreading out a picnic mat before the fireworks begin. Its open layout provides clear sightlines to the National Stadium and the fireworks launched over Marina Bay. A plus? Since it’s within the Sports Hub precinct, you’ll also be surrounded by the National Day festivities.

3. Tanjong Rhu Promenade

Stretching along the waterfront, Tanjong Rhu Promenade has long been a favourite for catching skyline views, and it’s now an official fireworks viewing spot. The promenade faces directly towards Marina Bay, offering a scenic view of the fireworks reflected across the water. It’s slightly removed from the main crowds, too, if that’s what you’re trying to avoid. The long waterfront also means there’s plenty of space to find your own viewing spot.

4. Kallang Basin Lookout

Perched along the edge of the Kallang Basin, this newly designated lookout deck offers elevated views across the water towards Marina Bay. The higher vantage point helps create a panoramic perspective of both the city skyline and the fireworks display. If you’re hoping to capture wide-angle photos of the celebrations, this is your spot. Get there early to secure a spot along the railings.

5. Golden Mile Tower

Golden Mile Tower offers a convenient city-fringe option for catching the National Day fireworks. Located along Beach Road, it’s easily accessible from Bugis and Nicoll Highway MRT, making it a good alternative if you’d rather avoid the busiest crowds around the National Stadium. You can also grab dinner in the area before heading to the open-air carpark to watch the display.

6. Marina Barrage

Those looking to spend quality time with their friends and family while waiting for the display can think about having a wholesome picnic at Marina Barrage. Since this rooftop garden overlooks the entire Marina Bay skyline, you’ll have unparalleled views here – of both the sunset and fireworks. Instead of packing your own picnic, easily pick up one of these picnic food bundles for a memorable National Day.

While Gardens by the Bay will have crowds of eager folks clamouring to watch the fireworks, it’s worth checking out Bay East Garden for a more cosy and intimate experience. Since the Garden stretches along the waterfront, you’ll get sweeping views of the Marina Bay skyline and other iconic buildings. Pick out a picnic bench or grassy spot, and make yourself comfortable for the display.

8. Singapore Flyer

For those looking for a romantic night out, the Premium Champagne Experience at the Singapore Flyer is one that fits the bill. Tickets start from $79 per person but it’s well worth the splurge, with guests taking a slow 30-minute spin on the ferris wheel. There are tickets for the 7pm to 7:30pm, and 8pm to 8:30pm timeslot.
