Spanning five ground-floor shophouses along Jalan Besar, Swee Choon Dim Sum is a cult-favourite that’s been fuelling Singapore’s night owls, uni students, and post-clubbing crowd for over 50 years. The queues stretch well into the early hours – proof of its enduring appeal and chaotic charm.
The vibe
No-frills, fluorescent-lit, and always buzzing. Plastic stools, tables crammed with steaming bamboo baskets, and the clatter of chopsticks at 2am – this is the real Singapore supper scene.
The food
The menu is a dim sum lover’s dream, with more than 80 items to pick from. Must-orders include the crispy mee suah kueh ($1 for two), molten liu sha bao ($3.60 for three), silky chee cheong fun, and flaky Portuguese egg tarts ($1.50 for two). It’s affordable, comforting, and highly craveable.

Housemade soya bean milk or good ol’ Chinese tea to keep things traditional.

They now take reservations, so book ahead if you’re rolling in with a big group. Or better yet, head down after midnight when the crowds mellow out and the kitchen is still in full swing.
